Char-Broil Big Easy Turkey Fryer: Best Oil-Less Turkey Fryer
If you want to cook up a great tasting turkey for whatever occasion, and you want that crispiness you get when frying food, but without all of the oil and added calories, maybe an oil-less turkey fryer such as this Char-Broil Big Easy Turkey Fryer might do the trick for you.
Without a doubt, the biggest and best highlight of this particular turkey fryer is of course that it does not use any oil, yet still results in an evenly cooked, juicy, and tender turkey, complete with that crispy skin you get from deep frying. The way the Char-Broil Big Easy Turkey Fryer cooks your turkey or chicken is with infrared heat technology.
Keep in mind that you need to connect a large propane tank directly to it, which then heats up the infrared chambers in the walls of the fryer, which then radiates heat to the turkey inside the pot.
What is quite impressive about the Char-Broil Big Easy Turkey Fryer is that it cooks turkeys fairly fast, within as little as 10 minutes per pound, and it cooks evenly with no hot or cold spots. This item comes complete with a turkey basket for ease of use, one that can also be used for chicken, roasts veggies, and anything in between.
The Char-Broil Big Easy Turkey Fryer is also very easy to use, because you simply connect a propane tank, use one knob to turn it on, and the other to light the ignition. On a side note, there is meat thermometer included as well. What’s also worth noting is that this oil-less turkey fryer is quite durable and long-lasting. Everything that can be made of stainless steel is made out of just that.
What's to like

It can achieve nearly the same crispy and juicy result as a deep fryer, but without all of the added fat and calories. Moreover, it is very easy to use, not to mention fast as well.
What's not to like
The bad part about the Char-Broil Big Easy Turkey Fryer is that it can only fit a 16-pound bird at most, realistically even a couple pounds less. In other words, if lots of family and friends coming over, then this fryer is not for you.
Cuisinart CDF-500 Rotisserie Deep Fryer: Most Versatile Turkey Fryer
As far as deep frying turkeys goes, here we have quite a unique option, as so far on this list, the Cuisinart CDF-500 Rotisserie Deep Fryer is the only option that can be safely used indoors without fear. However, it’s much pricier than any of the other turkey fryers we have looked at so far, but in terms of convenience and versatility, it might also be the best.
The Cuisinart CDF-500 Rotisserie Deep Fryer, as we mentioned up above, is more like a traditional deep fryer which you would find in home kitchens or very small restaurants; it’s not a full-scale deep frying unit of course, because that would be too large. This is a countertop deep fryer, something you would buy to deep fry a small turkey, a chicken, fish and seafood, fries, and other such things. It’s definitely versatile in this manner.
The fact that it’s fairly small and can easily fit on a counter, and inside of a kitchen cabinet, is a bonus. However, keep in mind that you won’t fit a turkey over 13 or maybe 14 pounds at most inside it. Something else that’s convenient is that the Cuisinart CDF-500 Rotisserie Deep Fryer comes complete with a 120-minute timer, plus accurate temperature controls. Moreover, the oil draining function at the bottom of this item makes oil easy to drain, and the item as a whole quite easy to clean.
The really neat part about the Cuisinart CDF-500 Rotisserie Deep Fryer is that for poultry, it can be used as a rotisserie fryer, as it comes complete with a rotisserie spit and a rotating function, so it constantly rotates the turkey in and out of the hot oil. This means that you can use much less oil to deep fry a turkey than with a stationary fryer.
That said, you can use it as a normal deep fryer, and yes, it comes with normal fryer basket for things like fries, fish, onion rings, and more. The fact that the whole thing is made out of durable stainless steel is no small feature either.
What's to like
What is really nice about the Cuisinart CDF-500 Rotisserie Deep Fryer is that it’s a nice item to have at home for many purposes. We are talking turkey today, but you might want fish and chips the next night, or fried pickles and onion rings the next day. This deep fryer can do it all, and from the convenience of your countertop.
What's not to like
The bad part about the Cuisinart CDF-500 Rotisserie Deep Fryer is that it can only fit a 14-pound bird, and that’s being generous, as it will probably top out at around 13 pounds. It’s just not something designed to prepare a huge turkey for large family gatherings.
Bayou Classic SP10 - 14-in High Pressure Cooker: Best Propane Cooker
OK, so this is not actually a turkey fryer per se, but instead, it’s the propane cooker or heating unit that you would use outdoors to heat up a large vat or pot of oil, which you would then deep fry your turkey in. Most turkey frying pots are not going to come with the propane tank and burner included, which you need, which is exactly what the Bayou Classic SP10 - 14-in High Pressure Cooker is.
The Bayou Classic SP10 - 14-in High Pressure Cooker is a pretty nifty item. First off, it comes complete with a welded steel frame which is specially coated. What we mean to say here is that this item is about as durable as humanly possible. It can easily hold a massive pot of oil, complete with a heavy turkey inside. It could easily hold up a couple hundred pounds without fear of bending or collapsing. It’s one of the reasons why we chose this item due to its durability.
Don’t forget that it also comes with legs designed for stability, and yes, they are even and solid, so your massive pot of boiling hot oil isn’t going to tip over, although it does have to be placed on even ground. Also, don’t forget that this is a simple heating unit, so all you have to do is connect your propane tank, ignite it, and select the temperature.
The Bayou Classic SP10 - 14-in High Pressure Cooker comes with accurate temperature control — we should say flame control, but the point is that you can turn the flame up high enough for a massive turkey, or turn it down so low to boil water for a single cup of coffee. Moreover, the heat here is very even, so you don’t have to worry about hot or cold spots.
What's to like
The good part about the Bayou Classic SP10 - 14-in High Pressure Cooker is that it’s a perfectly fine propane burner to be used for all sorts of purpose. You can use it outdoors for turkey frying, water boiling, and much more. It’s a very durable item, one that is easy to use, can be used for many purposes, and if you take care of it, should last a long time, all for a great price too.
What's not to like
Well, it’s not actually a turkey fryer, but other than that, there’s really nothing bad about it. Sure, the Bayou Classic SP10 - 14-in High Pressure Cooker does need to be on even and flat ground, which could be seen as a drawback, but it’s really no different than any other burner of its kind.
Masterbuilt MB23010618 XL Fryer: Best Electric Turkey Fryer
If you are not a fan of outdoor cooking, a good fryer for you to consider might be the Masterbuilt MB23010618 XL Fryer. It may be designed for indoor use, but that said, it’s actually quite large, very large in fact, plus it’s user-friendly too. Plus, all things considered, although it’s more expensive than anything else on our list today, it is very versatile, with great value for the money you are spending.
One of the things that is a highlight with this Masterbuilt XL Fryer is that it uses around 33% less oil than other deep fryers. It’s not really any healthier than normal deep fryers, but you will end up saving money simply because you don’t need as much oil to operate it. As you may have seen, “XL” is in the name which is because it is quite large. Now, this fryer comes in smaller sizes, but we have already covered a smaller indoor fryer, so we figured we’d go with the big guy here.
At any rate, you should be able to fit a bird of well over 20 pounds into the Masterbuilt MB23010618 XL Fryer, which is quite impressive for an indoor fryer. It is designed in such a way that it can fit a large bird, yet the fryer itself is not overly large; it has a good size to it, but it’s nothing like a full-scale commercial deep fryer.
You should probably have a counter large enough for it, and it’s not too bad when it comes to storing it in a cupboard or something similar. You might have some issues due to the space it needs, but realistically, you should be OK.
The Masterbuilt MB23010618 XL Fryer is very easy to use. Just put the oil in, set it to the desired temperature, and you are good to go. Another neat aspect of this fryer is that you can technically fill it with water to boil foods, or only a bit of water and combine it with the frying basket to steam foods too. The stainless steel design makes it not only very durable and long-lasting, but also quite easy to clean. Another reason why it’s easy to clean is the user friendly oil drain valve included with it.
What's to like
The good part about the Masterbuilt MB23010618 XL Fryer is that it’s an item that can actually be used indoors to fry a turkey, and safely too; not having to go outdoors to fry your turkey is convenient. Moreover, it’s an item that can be used to deep fry more or less anything, plus it can boil and steam food as well.
What's not to like
The only drawbacks with the Masterbuilt MB23010618 XL Fryer are that it does take a while to heat up, and it also doesn’t do the best job at maintaining temperature. In other words, deep frying a full size turkey is going to take some time.
Before you go out and buy the first fryer for a turkey you see, there are some important aspects which you should keep in consideration. Let’s talk about what features you need to look for before buying a turkey fryer.
Size and Capacity
One of the most important things for you to pay attention to before buying a turkey fryer is if the model in question can fit the size of turkey you plan on making. Some people make a smaller 10- or 12-pound bird, and large gatherings require a big bird, maybe up to 30 pounds or more. Therefore, whatever you get, it needs the capacity to fit the bird in question, so always be sure to check this.
Keep in mind that indoor frying units, while easier and more convenient, generally have a smaller capacity. The bottom line is that you need something that is small enough to fit somewhere in your home when not in use, but large enough to meet any and all capacity needs you may have.
Oil vs. Oil-Less
Obviously, deep frying is not the healthiest way to cook food, but it does lock in moisture well. Deep frying creates a crispy crust, and everybody loves that crispy turkey skin, and it works well to keep juices where they belong. Another big advantage of deep frying a turkey is that it will cook much faster than with baking or any other cooking methods.
That said, although oil-less frying takes a bit longer, and may not result in quite the same quality, it is of course much healthier. The simple fact is that with an oil-less fryer, you aren’t consuming nearly as much fat or as many calories.
Indoor vs. Outdoor
Something else to keep in mind is whether you want or need to fry outdoors. If you want to deep fry a turkey, a very large one, you will probably have to go with an outdoor setup, whereas smaller turkeys can usually be done in small, home kitchen fryers. That said, large outdoor setups tend to be of a higher quality, more durable, and cook much faster.
On the other hand, indoor setups are more convenient, plus normal small kitchen fryers can do more than just deep fry turkey. Just keep in mind that when using a large vat of oil and an open flame, like some setups have — go outside.
A good indoor frying unit will have some safety features, such as auto-shutoffs, timers, and other such things. If you are going with an indoor setup, always be sure that the frying unit in question comes with at least the basic safety features to keep your home safe.
However, outdoor frying setups, or in other words, a large pot of oil and a burner underneath, do not have safety features at all. It’s something you need to be super careful with, and it needs to be used in a large and open space. If hot oil spills and catches on fire due to the flame below, houses can burn down.
Simply put, does the fryer in question only allow for large-scale turkey frying outdoors, or is it a smaller and more versatile indoor unit? Most generic fryers will come with baskets and the like, so you can fry fish, potatoes, onion rings, and everything in between. Some models even allow for boiling or steaming too. It all depends on what you plan to do with the fryer in question.
Can I mix different oils in a turkey fryer?
Absolutely not, because different oils have different smoking points. In other words, one type of oil is going to start to smoke or burn at one temperature, whereas another oil will do the same at a different temperature. Either way, you need oil with a high smoke point, and never mix any oils together when deep frying.
How long will it take to deep fry a turkey?
What is impressive about deep frying turkeys is that it’s much faster than roasting. If done properly, a turkey should take no longer than 5 minutes per pound, which is much faster than baking or roasting, which can take around 20 minutes per pound.
What temperature does my turkey have to reach?
To be fully cooked and ready to eat safely, a turkey must reach an internal temperature of 165° Fahrenheit. This is best measured with a meat thermometer.
Are turkey fryers safe?
Normal indoor fryers are perfectly safe to use, such as those that can be used for poultry, fish, fries, and whatever else. However, the large outdoor setups, with a vat of oil and a burner underneath, do come with some safety concerns. If oil spills onto the open flame, it can result in a large fire. This is why it is very strongly recommended to only use these setups outdoors, as house fires can and do occur.
When all is said and done, if you want to deep fry a large turkey fast, an outdoor setup is probably what you want to go with, something like the Bayou Classic Turkey Fryer combined with the Bayou Classic SP10 - 14-in High Pressure Cooker.
However, for indoors use, and if you want something that can handle all sorts of frying tasks, the Masterbuilt MB23010618 XL Fryer is probably your best bet.
